Description
This is a very solid, rust-free 3 Synchro 5 Bearing car that is running well. No history but the engine is a 48G 528 which, for those unfamiliar with the numbers, is the correct Gold Seal replacement for the correct 18GD and was presumably fitted while Abingdon was still operational. Oil pressure is 60psi at 60 mph and 20-25 at tickover hot. The gearbox is a very good non-overdrive 3 Synchro box. Many new parts are fitted including both water and oil radiators and the distributor.
The paintwork is tartan red (BLRD9) but is quite awful and in need of a bare metal respray. The interior is fair and the correct seats in black leather are as new. The car, in addition to the respray, needs detailing and tuning, preferably on a rolling road, but it is usable as is and will be sold with a full years MOT.
I was intending to convert to a track day car, perhaps with an engine swap, but have decided that with Mk 1s now seeming thin on the ground it would be a shame to destroy its originality (only significant non-original parts now are the replica minilites and a very practical spin on oil filter.)
Many new spares available if required, asking £3, 750 firm with a fresh new MoT maybe negotiable without. (Making it the cheapest road worthy Mk 1 roadster I can find on the market at the time of placing the ad.) Would consider exchange with a Mk 2, roadster or GT or maybe even a pre ’73 Midget. Well modified cars of particular interest (especially with a K series fitted!!) or cars with excellent bodywork maybe needing mechanical attention. Cash either way but please bear in mind that Mk 1s are worth considerably more than Mk 2s and a roadster considerably more than a GT so please don’t expect a straight like-for-like swap with a Mk 2 GT ! If not sold soon may start to sprout roll bars, Sebring valances etc.
