Description
My Austin A40 Farina a well loved car with some detailed history. This A40 (Arthur) has been very well maintained over the years at some expense. It's very nice to drive, which is probably down to the low milage and the care of the owners. This is not the usual basket case or a car that needs masses of work. It's honest and very reliable. I have a file of paperwork that will stay with the car.
This is the 3rd A40 I have owned (This one for around 5 years) and the best of the 3 by a long stretch. I will be sad to see it go, but I'm looking for a camper. If by any rare chance you have a Morris/ Austin J4 or Fiat 238 Camper (or van) in very good or excellent condition I'd be interested in PX…??
As a 1965 it is tax free and I have a fully comp classic policy which is only about £100 per year. In general usage it returns 36/ 44 MPG. A cheap to run and usable classic car, with lots of character. Being the deluxe model it came with wood effect dash board, wing mirrors and carpets… What luxury…!

- details above
Please note the lighter streaks on the cills and front/ rear valance on the photographs is excess car wax (I like to keep a good layer of wax on the lower edges).
The engine is great, it's smooth and strong and at only 1098cc it's quite nippy around the town. These in-line A Series engines are now getting very rare with such a low mileage being a bonus. The gearbox has the usual first gear noises etc, these will be very familiar to any A40 or Morris Minor owner, this is normal for these cars. It will cruise all day at 55/ 60 mph. I have enjoyed trips to Norfolk and other far flung places. I have every confidence that this car will travel any where. In my possession it has had a regular full service and MOT each year. I use the car on a regular basis.
I have replace the old cross-ply tyres for 5 new radials (I think some of the old ones may have been original and were not worn just perished!). The fuel pump was replaced with a correct & genuine SU unit and I have recently put in a new Heavy Duty battery as the last one failed due to it's age.
I have also replaced all the original HT leads/ Distributor, Cap, Coil etc. I fitted a small modern amp for music (No holes and no drilling have been done, this is NOT included in the sale). I didn't want to drill any holes for a period radio or ariel. The original ignition items were in perfect working order but were interfering with my iPod (The original leads had no caps on the spark plugs!… So Old School!). These original bits and a few other new spares will be included in the sale for originality.
The heater was not working so I replaced the thermostat and housing and flushed the cooling system, and now it's great.
This is not a concourse car, but after a good polish and wax the car looks stylish and original. Underneath at some point it has been painted (Red Oxide) which is great for rust prevention, but does look a little odd.
The interior is original (Apart from 2 new front footwell carpets), it does have a few scuffs and marks here and there on the seats etc. I think this is only to be expected on a car of this age that has been used and enjoyed. There is a small tear (about 10mm) in the head lining that looks like it was patched with a small piece of tape about 30 years ago! The front footwell carpets are new, I still have the old ones but they are a little thread-bare, the boot carpet is missing and was replaced by some period boot material.
Anyone who is seriously interested in a car of this age should expect signs of usage. It's not perfect but in my opinion it is very good. And magically reliable.
