Time for a change. Owned by us since 2003, our gleaming black A40 Somerset is for sale to a caring owner.
The car always attracts a lot of attention at the various shows and rallies we attend in it. There are not generally that many seen on the road nowadays. There is a very active marque membership club, with an excellent spares service.
MoT'd until April 2011
Good bits:
Most of the paintwork is original, and really does gleam with a deep colour and shine on most panels.
Fully reconditioned engine 2004. Less than 2, 500 miles since.
Very good original tan interior. No major splits or marks but a few scuffs as might be expected on an original interior. There are a couple of pieces of repair tape around the edges of the door panels. The red carpet and headlining have both been replaced at some time, and both look as new.
Stainless Exhaust. Electric cooling fan and thermostat.
4 recent Dunlop crossply tyres. The wheels were refurbished while the tyres were off and are very presentable.
Recent refurbished dynamo
There is not any major or structural corrosion anywhere on our car.
The not so good bits:
The bodywork has a few 'supermarket' chips and dents around. Notably a 4/ 5 inch long x 1 inch wide dent in the n/ s lower front door, plus a couple of scrapes on the os rear lower door.
The ns rear outer wing could do with a refurbish, there is some not-very-good paint on there and a there is a small corrosion blister.
The leading edge of both inner rear wings have some corrosion. It has been like that since we bought the car, I never got around to sorting them. These could be repaired with filler, but if I were keeping the car I would weld in new metal in the areas.
I removed wing mirrors because I didn't like the look of them on the car, but there are paint chips where they sat.
The front wing was not fitted very well at some time, and is misaligned from the door curvature. This is not anything to do with a collision or anything, just poor fitting.
None of this is major and none of it detracts from the attractiveness of the car. A bit of refurbishment which would not be expensive to do or have done would enhance the car no end and make it virtually perfect.
I have plenty of photographs of the car, just ask if you are interested in seeing them.
A great car for the enthusiast, a very good example of its period, good for rallies etc. A good drive, steady at 55-60 on major roads but happiest on side roads. I hope the new owner cherishes it every bit as much as we have done.
